Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

The carpal tunnel is a channel which runs between your wrist and palm. Contained within is an important nerve and nine tendons. Certain conditions such as repetitive hand movements can cause excess pressure inside the carpal tunnel, thus crushing the nerve. Several medical conditions such as diabetes, rheumatoid or thyroid disorders, predispose a person to carpal tunnel syndrome. The resultant symptoms may include numbness, an unpleasant tingling or burning sensation or even pain in the wrist, palm, and fingers -- carpal tunnel syndrome. Occasionally these pains may radiate up to the elbow or even shoulder.

If left untreated carpal tunnel syndrome can cause nerve damage; so seeking medical attention promptly is the best course if you believe you may have symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome.
