Hand, Wrist and Elbow Injuries
The physicians at Midland Orthopedic Associates have specialized training in the care and treatment of hand, wrist, and elbow injuries and conditions. These include carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis, sports injury, fractures, overuse injuries, as well as tendon, ligament, and nerve injuries and work related disorders. Our surgeons perform repairs of tendons, fractures, and nerve injuries; tendon transfers; contracture and tendon releases; nerve decompression; tumor removal; as well as arthroscopy of the wrist and elbow. Our physicians work as a team with occupational therapists to aid in a successful recovery.
Preventing Common Musculoskeletal Disorders
Hand, wrist and elbow injuries are common types of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) among U.S. workers. They are common among those in office settings, laboratories and other places that require a lot of typing and working on computers. This is in part because many workstations are not set up optimally to promote ergonomically correct work postures.
For instance, if your hand and wrist are not at or near the same height as your elbow as you use your mouse, you may develop an MSD in one of those joints over time. That’s why if you feel pain in your lower arms you should ask your work about getting an ergonomic mouse or wrist supports for your keyboard and mouse. We can provide you information as well on how to position your body so that you work more ergonomically.
